ARE YOU DRINKING ENOUGH WATER?
 
Every part of your body needs water to work properly. From maintaining the temperature of your body to the function of your brain, your intake of water has a direct effect on your mental and physical health. Dehydration occurs when body losses more fluids than you take in. If this continues,it can lead to serious health problems.
              Kidney stones form when there are high concentrations of the bloods waste products in the urine. These waste products create Crystals,which build up in the kidneys to form stones that that can be painful to pass. As well as preventing the development of kidney stones, drinking water is an essential part of promotion good health and preventing any other potential health risks. With our brains consisting of about 70% water, and our bodies around 50-75%, it should come as no surprise that proper hydration is essential to maintain good mental and physical performance. There are a number of symptoms associated with dehydration. As well as the obvious symptoms of feeling thirsty, urinating little and having a dry mouth,lips and eyes, you may feel tired, dizzy or light-headed, and your urine may be dark yellow in appearance with a strong smell. Dehydration is more likely to occur if you have been in the sun too long or in too high temperatures,if you have been vomiting or suffering from diarrhea,or if you have drunk too much alcohol. In order to avoid dehydration, make a habit of checking the colour of your urine. The healthier your urine is, the clearer it will appear. As this gets progressively darker, the signs of dehydration become more obvious. At 3% dehydrated, your urine will be noticeably yellow. When you are severely dehydrated (5% or more), your urine will appear dark brown or orange. The important thing is to not let it get this far. There are a number of simple solutions that will ensure that you maintain hydration as a result. Firstly, drink more water. This sounds obvious, and it is. To avoid dehydration, you must hydrate. Make a habit of drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water over the course of the day. Another way hydrated is to reduce the amount of water your body releases. Avoid sugary and caffeine rich drinks,as these cause you to sweat and pass more urine. The consumption of alcohol will also contribute to dehydration. It is essential that you pace yourself during physical work and ensure that you take enough rest to recover throughout. Where possible,wear light-coloured, loose fitting clothes that will help you keep cool when working. If you are working in the sun, ensure that you are drinking enough water every day. Make sure you drink plenty of water at meal times and take every opportunity to rehydrate, especially when undertaking manual labour. Remember, you should be drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water a day. So make a habit of doing the simple things that will maintain your mental and physical health.
